Hey,

I'm looking at a new motherboard. Newegg lists these two that I'm considering. I'm looking to find out if the "extra" PATA headers will support regular non-RAID drives. They have listed "standard ATA headers" and then "additional ATA headers" with "additional ATA headers RAID", and I'm wondering if the "additional" ATA headers can be used on non-raid configurations such as optical drives...

here're the links:

any ideas?

thanks

Last time I tried optical didnt work.
Altough other HDs did work without being "raided together"...if that make sens

but why would you need to do that? you got more than 2hd 2 optical?

Asus P4P800DX, P4C 2.6ghz@3.25ghz, 2X512 OCZ PC4000 3-4-4-8, MSI 6800Ultra stock, 2X30gig Raid0

yes, as crazy as it is, i do have alot. its a bit overkill, but instead of replacing drives when i uprgrade i just keep the old. i have 2x liteon 52x24x52CD-RW's, 2x sony DVD/CD-RW's, and now i'm adding 2x HP lighscribe DVD+/-RW's...

thanks

If you can can part with another $70 to $80.00 the AUS P5AD2-E-Premium is the best board for your CPU in the performance category and in the features area. It has a primary IDe as well as 2 other IDE connectors through the SouthBridge all can support optical drives. Im looking at the actual manual now. Then you have 8 SATA connectors and an additional 2 that you can use for external SATA devices via an adapter that comes with the board. It has anything that I could imagine you wanting and then some. This board will support 16 or better SATA + IDE drives.

Intel 3.73 EE @ 5.6Ghz
XMS2 DDR2 @ 1180Mhz
