What I mean is can I use 5 of the 6 SATA ports on the following two motherboards and use 1 for a single OS boot drive or will the RAID be enabled on all 6 ports?
Abit IP35 Pro
Asus P5E Deluxe
Some old Newegg links showing specs:

I forgot I had that old Abit board. I'm surprised I didn't sell it but I'm glad its available to me now. I'd rather not use the Asus board because its already in use and I don't want to relocate it.
If the ports are all RAID active when RAID is enabled as I suspect my options are what?
eSATA and USB right? Obviously the eSATA would be much better. Hopefully I can get away with fishing the eSATA cable/s back into the case and have the drives mounted internaly.
If this can work it will save me money.
