Is there a real big difference between the 2 as far as playing games online, I'm using a EVGA with a good onboard LAN and was wondering if i really need to put my linsys nic card in

Ethernet is commodity technology with all the bugs ironed out long ago. For home use, the onboard is all you need.

You'll see no difference unless you are running a high-load server with tons of simultaneous connections and quality of service requirements. Then you would want better NIC.

Or you could drop $249 on the KillerNIC!!! Yes, that'd be ultra-sweet.

Don't waste your money on that P.O.S. we reviewed it, and it's sooo not worth the money, stick with onboard.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Many onboard GbE LAN chips are connected to PCI-E lanes, so are actually better than PCI cards.

With regards to the Killer NIC,

I just sent bad a third defective card. If I ever get one that actually works, I'll post my impression of it.

I agree that in some instances a cheap home router can be a bottleneck... especially when multiple computers are sharing an internet connection. Many times the router's actual throughput is far less than that of the internet connection it's connected to.
