Onboard network adapter vanished.

I was playing on my desktop yesterday and all of a sudden my net dropped. I thought the internet had just went out in my apartment, but instead my onboard lan seems to have vanished.

I've ran through the motions: verified the cable and internet work on another computer, attempted a reinstall of the driver (the wizard fails, basically telling me I have to have the device to install the driver).

The tab doesn't even exist in my device manager for network adapters.

Just for shits and giggles, I even disconnected the thing from power entirely and rebooted, nothing. Nothing has been amiss with my computer recently, either. No BSODS or anything like that.

Though highly annoying, I can simply purchase a pci adapter, but my real fear is this is a sign something else will break in the near future.

I'm running win7 pro x64. the offending onboard device is simply called "Killer Network Manager," but it has an Atheros stamp on the wizard.

The way you describe it, it sounds like the Atheros LAN adapter failed. Try unplugging the PC from the wall socket for several minutes. Then plug the PC back in and see if it comes back to life. Are there any lights on at the Ethernet socket? There should be 2. one green and one amber.

Can you still RMA the board?

No luck letting it completely power down unplugged and rebooting =\

The offending NIC is a Qualcomm Killer E2205, I did finally manage to get that bit of info. I'm trying to see if there's a manual with LED error codes or something.

The ethernet port is such that the plastic pin is faced to the left. There's a persistent orange light on the upper side. Doesn't change, and stays on regardless of whether or not there's a cable in it.

OK, I was going from memory of other MSI boards I had and assumed it was Atheros. I think it is Qualcomm/Atheros or something like that. Doesn't matter. Either way, it appears to have died.

Maybe there's one more thing we can try. I've read that the Killer software can be an issue sometimes. If you feel like trying it...
Uninstall everything that came with the adapter in the way of software... driver, apps, etc. Then reboot and run something like CCleaner to get rid of anything that might still be left in the registry. If possible, download JUST the LAN driver alone and install that while you are connected to the internet.

After that, you may want to contact MSI for some support.
