onboard sound vs a cheap soundcard

friend has offered me his old soundcard for £10. Is it worth using instead of my onboard sound?

Asus p8z77-v lx

I mostly game via corsair sp2500 speakers and senheiser mm400 x headphones

Will it improve things?

I have a creative audio chip buit into my motherboard (also known as audio boost) and its amazing you are able to customize the bass level crystallizer surround and dialog which if done right you can get some amazing sound not too sure about your integrated soundcard though as I have never used it but I know if you have a razor account you can get surround pro for free and that has some really good options to change sound aswell

Yes, I think your buddy is giving you a great deal. On board sound is usually fine, but in this case the card would be better providing you have the pci slot available. Your board has 3.
