Question Onboard video using AMD ryzen CPUs

There's a lot of talk going around about boards for ryzen ships that have Onboard video but you need a special CPU from ryzen to control that Onboard video and I sent a message off to AMG and this is a response that I got back from them I hope this helps everybody out there that wants to use Onboard video motherboards with AMD ryzen processor.

Ryzen processor (1200 up to 1800) and (Ryzen 2600 and 2700) do not have video controller , you must need to install a video card , or install a processor which included video controller within the cpu in order to use the video onboard interface.

Ryzen CPU's with a G on the end have an integrated GPU, such as the Ryzen 5 2400G.

This is the case with any model/brand. you need at least 1 graphic processor to output to a display. I think older mobo used to have integrated graphics but now it's integrated with the CPU. So all he is saying is unless the CPU has an integrated graphics processor you will need a GPU.

I think you are a bit confused about this and that's ok, it's not very clear cut.

But there is no motherboard out there with graphics built in that simply get "activated" with a certain CPU. What they are actually saying is that the motherboard has on board support for an integrated chip, which means that you can use the integrated graphics of a CPU that has such technology in it, whereas with a board that doesn't have support, when you put a chip in that has integrated graphics, it won't support outputting those graphics through on board connections.

But in this day and age, boards like that are like unicorns.

To be able to have on board video with AMD Ryzen, you need to simply have a CPU that has graphics integrated into it, and that is the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G.
The "G" at the end signifies that it has integrated "Graphics"

Everything else doesn't come with an iGPU (or AGPU as AMD calls it) and to get video you need to have something that can produce graphics, and typically this is a graphics card.

Intel on the other hand has put iGPU's inside nearly ALL of their CPU's since forever.
Something AMD might want to work on in the future, because having integrated graphics is very useful when needing to bread board a system and troubleshoot things.
