I want to get16gb of ram for my system but can't afford it right now so was planning to just get one 8gb stick for now and one in the future (ITX build). Is it true that you should only buy them in pairs?

Buying RAMs in pair is good because they have exact same features and are totally tested with each other but many people upgrade from a single RAM stick and most of them dont have any problem (but remember to get the exact same model of ram with same case latency and mhz.)
