For some background i'm building a mostly fresh computer so i have a new motherboard and new RAM right out of the box.

Now my problem is that i have 2 RAM slots and when i have any RAM connected in the second slot i get a black screen on startup which doesn't go away. The computer also stays on and doesn't turn itself off if that helps. I'll run you through the troubleshooting i've done so far.

First i tested if my RAM was defective by using both of them in the working RAM slot which worked perfectly. I also used them in a completely different system just to make sure that they were in working order.

So thats that. Next i tested different ram but it just wasnt compatible with my motherboard.

So then i reset my BIOS CMOS which didnt help. Then i updated my bios to the latest version which also didnt work out.

The only other thing i did was visually check the RAM slot for blockage of some kind and blow in it for safe measure.

My best guess is either i broke something while putting the PC together or i have a faulty MB. I just want to explore all options. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Specs:

i7 4790k
GTX 1080 FE
ASRock H97M Mini-ITX
Coolermaster V Series 550 Watt Modular
RAM is PNY 2x8GB 1600MHz DDR3 1.5v from bestbuy and i somehow cant find it online.

Edit: I just tested some old sticks in the Mobo and they work great as long as I still don't use the second ram slot. Brilliant. Gonna RMA tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads-up! I checked my pins and sure enough, two bent ones.

One of them was easy to bend back but the other... Lost cause. That's fine though, i'm perfectly OK with just getting it fixed/replaced so i'll have a working motherboard.

Thanks for the reply again.

If ever you need to bend them back on another board the best way seems to be a mechanical pencil, the lead breaks before the pin.

Good tip! My nerves usually break before the pin does anyway
