One speaker seems to be broken

A couple of days ago I upgraded my pc and plugged in my speakers. They worked fine. However, the last couple of days, the left speakers if very crackled and you cannot make out what is being said.

I plugged in the speakers into my phone and the left speaker works. What could be the problem?

Could it worryingly be a problem with the motherboard. If so, what should I do?

May be first check with plugging into the correct jack and then check the panning for the speakers, if it is set to one side (left or right) you will only get the one channel or try reinstalling drivers or have a look at this tips Sound Problem From Computer Speakers which may assist you with some idea.

Bit of weird one. The left speaker works if I unplug or move the 3.5mm

So i think may be problem with jack or the holder.

Ah crap. I've just fitted it and i'm a bit worried.

Hopefully no need to worry just check with that jack or the holder which may prevent causing the problem again
