Hi, I have OneDrive installed on Windows 11 and it normally boots at start up as this is where all my files are saved as default. I noticed that it didn't load earlier on so I opened it up manually and checked the settings but the OneDrive app was recently updated and there's nowhere which says 'enable at startup' like it used to. I noticed there was no log in startup apps either. On my other laptop there is a log in startup for it. What I did was unlink the laptop and then re-link and everything is fine since, there is a toggle in start apps and it now loads on boot. Do I need to worry? Unsure as to what happened. What does unlinking actually do as my files remained, but it seemed like they weren't online versions? Cheers.

Solution
if it happens again, I would try a clean boot as all it does is removes non microsoft programs from start up. Just in case its a conflict. It would be strange for another app to be able to change its startup settings.
Your files are saved there and NOWHERE else?

its how it works normally, it changes the save location of all library folders excluding downloads to Onedrive

this is my settings in Onedrive app, no way to change its startup status from here. There used to be.

Try these - https://www.guidingtech.com/top-5-ways-to-fix-onedrive-not-opening-on-startup-in-windows-11/

Option 1 doesn't seem to work anymore, I don't have the menus in new app it suggests, but you can still change its status from the startup settings or the task manager choice. That is if you want to disable. It seems it should be auto on otherwise.

If you unlink, all it means is the local files won't be synced. It doesn't remove them as such. Just means that if you created newer versions on another PC, the ones on the PC you unlinked wouldn't be updated to the newest versions until you relinked it.

Thanks so much for explaining. There wasn’t any log in startup apps for OneDrive so I unlinked and then re-linked and there is now an entry in the startup and everything is working again. I wonder what went wrong? Do I need to reset the laptop? Hope the registry is ok. I did sfc/ scan now and that came back okay and I note a recent update for Windows 11 has caused major problems so it might have been linked to that.

One other question, if I had updated a file whilst it was unlinked, what happens to that file and the update? Will it sync once linked again?

Thanks!

I think it would probably resync at some point, maybe it works similar to how saved games are synced in example a software such as steam, or ubisoft connect.

But I really wouldn't know because I don't personally use OneDrive, I rather have my files preserved or deleted with last action.

that is odd. One scenario that can happen is if its a Work PC and it has a group policy that disabled it. But if its just a home PC, maybe just a glitch.

SFC was suggested here, as was trying another user account or a clean boot as it could be a conflict with another program - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-startup/e012414b-c495-4888-9135-76cd416df855

unlinked files will resync once relinked. I think its smart enough to know which is newer.

Thank you. :)

Thank you - yes, must have just been a glitch as it's a home PC.

I unlinked and re-linked and everything was resolved, but I am not sure if I need to worry- resetting the laptop seems quite overkill now it is working again? :)

Thanks - I was just worried whether there was a problem in the registry. I will keep an eye on it, now it appears in start-up apps and everything is working normally.
