Onetouch 4 mini powers up but not working

The light comes on when I use the Y or double USB cable but the message "No external drives were found" come up. Anyone know why this would be? Also if I use the single cable it beeps continuously. Thanks in advance.

Hey Lynley. Is that some sort of backup software giving you this message? What's the OS on your computer? I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different computer to see if the same thing happens. Would you please open Disk Management and let me know if the drive is recognized there and if "yes", what it says about the partition and the file system (or just post a screenshot). Other than that, if you have important data on that drive you could try and access the HDD via Linux Live USB/CD to see if you can recover it this way, or you can use some of the data recovery options given in this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

After you've recovered your data or if you don't want to recover anything, I'd recommend that you download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive with it, to see if there are any errors or bad sectors.
