Hi hows it going, the other day my gpu over heated and continued to do so. I opened up the case and found out that only one fan was spinning (it has two fans). I've been looking at posts all over the internet but I cant seem to figure out why only one fan is spinning. They both spin on start up for 1-2 secs then stop. Then when i use EVGA PrecissionX and boost the fan speed all the way up only 1 goes at full speed. I tried playing a game and the gpu heated up to 100 degree's celsius and the fans only came on then when it was extremely hot. That was BOTH of them, the left one decided to start spinning only when it was extremely hot.

I wiped all my nvidia drivers and started again but it didnt make a difference.
I cleaned all the dust out of the fans inspected the wires.

So I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me to fix this issue? Btw I'm using Nvidea GeForce GTX 660

If they both still spin, that's a good thing.

I don't think there is something wrong with the system, but something may be wrong with the motor in the one fan that isn't spinning. You may have to remove the casing on the graphics card to access the fan components.

Check to see if there is anything in the way of the motor/fan that is preventing the fan from spinning freely, dust, dirt, etc. If it's not that, make sure the fan power connector is plugged in all the way.

The motor in your fan may just be dysfunctional. If that is the case, replacement fans are usually inexpensive.

oh ok thanks for that. Are the fans usually the same size? if i were to replace it. Im not sure where to look for them

Nvidea Geforce.

I had an idea, i took the fan from the cpu of my old pc. Can i plug it into my current motherboard and have it sitting near my GPU? As a temporary fix ?

That could work, but it'd be best to remove the dysfunctional GPU fan first and electrical tape the new fan to the GPU for the best cooling.

The physical NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 has only one fan, and it's a blower fan. I don't think that's your card, but the closest to two fans I could find was the EVGA Geforce GTX 660. Assuming that is your GPU, here are replacement fans:
