Guys – I really need help with this….
Last week I bought this hardware for a new build:
Core i7-9700k-3,6Ghz
G.Skill DDR4 PC3200 16GB (2x8) kit Ripjaws
Corsair CX65 PSU
MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS MOBO
MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GAMING Graphic
When hitting the power button the first time it only turned on the fans and GeForce – it didn’t boot or tried to boot. On the MOBO there are 4 error LED’s and they said “Faulty DRAM). I googled it and found many other have the same issues with MSI MOBO’s and there were various suggestions how to overcome it. Nothing worked for me and I started playing around with the RAM blocks, and as soon as I removed 1 so only 1 was left the machine booted fine. I installed windows and then tried to switch the 2 RAM modules and it booted fine again. I tried to install 2 and it wouldn’t boot.
I ordered 2x8gb other RAM modules as I thought that was the issue – Corsair Vengance DDR4 PC3200 and the result is exactly the same.
Ok – then I concluded something must be wrong with the MOBO and I made a RMA and went to the shop with it – they declined any RMA because there was a very tiny fraction of thermal paste in the CPU connector on the MOBO…..
Oh well – I went home, googled how to clean the thermal paste out – did that, only to see there were 3 bent CPU pins.. ☹ I then googled how to repair that – did that and unfortunately 1 was broken completely of…
I thought - what the hell could happen and put everything back together, and the machine was booting fine – but still only able to run with 1 RAM block.
Well – I then bought e new MOBO – a Asus Prime Z390-A.
Installed everything (all 4 RAM blocks since I might as well use them) and pushed the power button……the machine tried to boot but didn’t, it went on/off, on/off etc. with a few seconds interval. I removed 2 RAM blocks and it booted fine – HURRAY!
The joy was as long as it took to launch Speccy – the machine only detects 8gb ram (1 block) and as 2133Mhz not 3200Mhz as they should be….
Last night I upgraded to the latest BIOS which didn’t make any difference – except the machine now crash when I play COD MW…..
Please help me – I am getting desperate (and poor as weel) ☹
