Hey Guys,

Managed to build a new workstation w/o destroying any parts (afaict so far).

Only problem is: I installed 64gb of ram, but the bios and windows are only registering 16gb.

Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks in advance for your help and here is the build:

  • Intel Xeon E5-2699 V4 2.2GHz 22-Core OEM/Tray Processor

    Asus X99-E WS/USB 3.1 SSI CEB LGA2011-3 Motherboard

    Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (8 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

Samsung 960 Evo 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

Western Digital Gold 6TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit

There is no such thing as octa-channel. The memory slots are paired up putting 2 dimms in the same channel.

Because thats not the problem he made that horsehockey up.

Have you physically checked that all memory was fully inserted and locked in place?

Ok thanks, sounds like that's probably it.

I'm not up to date or very tech savvy to begin with, so what does that mean exactly?

and it sounds like there's probably no realistic work-around, right?

Ohh
Guess I mixed up memory slots with channels

Yeah, asked the tech guy at work and he also said to check physically that all sticks are properly inserted.

Don't have time to open it up tonight unfortunately,

So I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back here.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I'll be back soon

According to the corsair ram selection guide, your ram kit is compatible.

Check that all the ram is properly inserted. Try it again.

Run cpu-Z, it identifies what ram is inserted in each slot.
If you are missing a stick, it will help you identify which slot is suspect.

Check to see if there is a motherboard bios that addresses your issue.
DO NOT flash the bios on speculation; a failed flash can brick your motherboard.

Call Corsair support.

Hey again. Happened to wake early so I gave this a shot. turns out that yup, they just needed to be physically re inserted. Wasn't easy b/c they're under the cpu cooler, which is the size of a cinderblock. but yeah, everything seems operational now. Much thanks for all your help everyone!
