Why am i getting only 335mb/s write speed and very low Random Write?

I ran the Performance optimization, AHCI is enabled in BIOS and i have a lot of free disk space
I'm running Windows 7 64bits with 6GB/s Sata

I have another SSD (1tb Samsung EVO) and this one is having optimal performances: https://gyazo.com/8785c0fa6f9733dbe4669cdfb8a31500

Would i get better performance if i buy another Samsung Pro SSD and put it in RAID ? I never done that before, is it a lot of trouble ? Can i do this without formatting and reinstalling OS ?

Which motherboard and which storage controller are you using for the pro? Is the Evo in the same system?

Have a look at which Sata port the pro is connected to, sometimes 3rd party controllers like Marvel don't perform as well as the primary chipset storage controller.

Motherboard was high end when i bought it ... MSI z87-g45 military class
The evo is in the same system, but i don't know which storage controller i am using... it's connected straight in the board

Ok thanks, your board uses only the one z87 chipset for the Sata controller so it shouldn't be the issue. But in case the board is being picky use Sata ports 1 and 2 for both SSDs. They're the bottom two, furthest away from memory. Lower is Sata #1 and upper is #2

Has Magician detected any firmware updates for the Pro?

So try changing ports if you're not using 1&2, try a firmware update and also try another Sata cable/or switch around if you don't have any spares.

Yeah that really doesn't make sense. Personally, I'd connect that Pro SSD in to another computer with an open SATA III interface and bench it there to see if its any different.

It doesn't make sense that it would be a bad SATA port or controller if the read is getting full bandwidth. If its flowing full speed in one direction it should be flowing full speed in the other as well.

You may just have a bad SSD.

Both SSD are already in port 1 and 3. Firmware is latest version.

Is this a valid reason to RMA the SSD to Samsung ?

But even if i RMA it i would need another SSD until i receive the replacement one. So i thought i could just buy another Samsung SSD Pro and once i receive the replacement i'd set it up in RAID with the other one.
The problem is that the 840 Pro is discontinued, newer model is 850 pro

Can i run RAID-1 with a 256GB 840 Pro + 250GB 850 Pro ?
Can i setup RAID without reinstalling OS ?
Software raid VS hardware raid, whats the difference ? I have a 5GHZ Core i5 with 32GB RAM, is it worth going hardware raid or i won't notice performance difference ?

First, if you go to RAID you'll likely have to reinstall your OS. There may be some trickery to get around this but it will be complicated. As soon as you change your SATA ports to RAID mode you'll lose the ability to boot from your SSD.

Using the intel chipset for RAID, it might not let you do a RAID-1 with those two SSDs because of the size difference. Also, to clarify, you can't do "software" RAID for your bootable OS drive. "Software" RAID is when you configure RAID between two hard drives from disk manager in windows. "Hardware" RAID is when you use a hardware RAID controller, like on the Intel chipset or a PCIe RAID card. Some people call the Intel chipset RAID "software" RAID but its not...the Intel chipset on your motherboard uses your CPU for RAID calculations and can use system RAM as cache but your OS doesn't see the hard drives directly connected to the motherboard as they are driven by the Chipset's RAID controller (which is hardware...).

I suggesting searching around Toms or just google installing Windows to a RAID array, as there's already a million articles out there about it.

You can contact samsung and ask if they'll send the replacement drive first, so you can clone your current one off to it, then send them the bad one back. Can't be the first time they've heard this request as thousands of people have their SSD as their boot drive like you.

This is the last time im buying a Samsung product.

After going through your email, I understand that you are experiencing issues with the write speed of the Samsung SSD and you would like us to assist with the warranty replacement procedure.

We apologize, at present we are not handling the SSD product as it requires special training and expertise.

We do have dedicated support for this product. You can reach them by calling: 1-888-480-5655 between 8am - 11:30am CT, 1pm - 6pm CT, Monday – Friday.

Bought it 2 years ago. Samsung claimed the Pro SSD has a 5 years warranty. Newegg warranty is only for the first month.

I'm in the US and called up Samsung's SSD department and asked them what's up with your situation,

They informed me the following:

"Samsung Canada doesn't support SSDs. All of Samsung's SSD support for North and South America is handled through Samsung USA.

The number the agent gave you would get you to Samsung US's SSD support. 1-888-480-5655, prompts 1, 6, and then 1.

Alternately you can also email support@totalts.com or samsungmemorysupport@sea.samsung.com for help with SSDs. "

Too complicated. I'm not going to wait 1 month without my computer (this is my OS drive) just for them to try to repair the SSD.

I'm just going to buy an Intel SSD.

I've done their repair procedure before tons of times for my customers. It typically around 4 or 5 days after sending the drive out, they sent it back repaired. one time it took 7 or 8 days, but that was because the repair didn't work, so they replaced the unit.

Yes i have upgraded everything to latest drivers, problem persist... I'm thinking trying to format and start fresh Windows7 installation to see if problem persists... But it will probably not fix it, because the other 1TB SSD drive gets all its speed, and it will take so long to reinstall everything i'm currently using on this OS install since years...
