Hello, I have a Dell inspiron 5721 that I upgraded to 8gb of ram. Only 4gb is shown in bios, system, Cpuz, etc. I'm running 64 bit windows 7 home premium. Specs show I can run 16gb max. Ram is seated properly. I've tried 2 different sets of ram both 2x4gb. Max memory box unchecked in boot options. Memory diag results have no issues. Bios is at latest. All drivers current. Not sure what else to try. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Amount shown in BIOS is first thing to look for because nothing else would detect it if not right in there. See if you are placing them in right slots if more than 2. Also reset CMOS/BIOS between the changes. You may also try to place them one by one in every slot to make sure everything is working.

How did you upgrade? Did you purchase an 8Gb kit or add 4Gb to existing ram. Quite often there is incompatibilities in ram, and while bios will recognize it as being present, it simply won't work with each other.

What exactly is the ram, speeds, timings, voltage.? (old and new)

So yes only 4gb in bios. And there are only 2 slots available. Ram is 2 sticks of 4gb. 1.35v 1600mhz. CL9. Corsair vengenc . OE ram was same speed and voltage. I will try 1 stick at a time tonight to check for a bad socket.
