My pc has been plagued with some problem where it just crashes and reboots. It has been happening since I connected my friends HDD to mine to see if his works, it messed up my system somehow, even after a another fresh install.

Tha problem aside a new problem started, for the last 4yrs I have had 4x 4gb modules of corsair ram. Now out of the blue just today my Witcher 2 crashed saying I dont have enough memory, so I open task manager and there I see only 4gb is usable as appears and rest 12gb is on system reserve some how. I recently disabled Superfetch service because I feel it was crashing steam along with my whole system. How do I get my ram to be fully usable again. Its bollocks having 12gb as unusable reserve.

Running windows 8.1,
mobo: Gigabyte Ga-DS3P
FX 8320...all parts are inter-compatible no issues there.
HD 7950

Hi, If it was reading right before, then I can assume you have a 64bit operating system. When you hooked up your friend's Hdd, I am wondering he had the Operationg system installed on it and if it was 32 bit. If so, it may have done something to the BiOS and you might want to go into the BiOS ( setup ) at start up and reset it to default ( F5 on most ) and see if that helps.

No sir, he had a 64-bit windows 7! Now 8.1 and 7 do things slightly different, that could be something. I have fixed my problem to a degree just now. I had to re-arrange my RAM sticks until they worked. I had just cleaned the whole system today so when I put in my RAM again I probably put them in slots that they were not in before the cleaning.

Now I dont recall, but previously I guess I had no hardware reserve for RAM and had full 16GB usable. Now it shows up 15GB usable and 1.0 GB hardware reserved.

I have another problem with the RAM for which I think I will open another thread. Thanks for your input! 😀

[chuckle] I think you solved your own problem. You didn't mention you had the ram sticks out. Putting them in the wrong slots wil do that.
