I have an AC1900 usb 3.0 adapter and an R9000 router. These devices are only getting a 54 mbps connection to each other. Support had me change my security mode, even though it was already WPA2, and flip through various channels on the router. Nothing helped. Is there anything else I can try? I have phones and tv's on the network that are all getting the "correct" speeds. The "physical link" in Netgear Genie which only shows 54mbps. It should be much higher. Also as far as actual internet speed goes, I am getting 75+ up/down at the router and only 20 up/down through the adapter if I'm lucky. I am on Windows 10 64 bit, and the adapter is in a USB 3.0 port.

If you are actually getting "54" exactly then you are likely running 802.11g. That is really strange since both your adapters can run 802.11n or 802.11ac.

The number you get is more used to tell the encoding you are using rather than the speed. It would be nice if they used the MCS values instead but that likely confuses too many people.

I would first try to connect only to the 5g band. You should have different SSID on the 5g radio so you should be able to select that. It hopefully will run 802.11ac or at least 802.11n. You can also disable the support for 802.11b and 802.11g in the settings on the router for the 2.4g band.

Maybe try to uninstall the driver for the ac1900 and reinstall it. The speed is negotiated and in general it will pick the best both will support. It also determines it based on how much signal levels it can get. Still it should just choose a slower 802.11n encoding rather than going back to 802.11g. The actual number you get is very important, there is a very big difference in what 54 means and say 57.8. You can look these numbers up in the MCS table and guess what parameters where negotiated.
