I was looking to buy a Supermicro board like this https://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon3000/3400/X8SIL.cfm?IPMI=Y for a highish speed hard drive based ZFS Z2 NAS with 10Gig networking. I wanted to put an lsi hba card in along with the NIC, but the ARK listing for the 3420 chipset says that is only supports 8 pcie lanes https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/42904/intel-3420-chipset.html This seems ridiculus. Am I missing something here? I hope I am, but would love to have it confirmed.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for the dumb question, I figured it had to be something along those lines.

Not a dumb question. You don't want to see the actual dumb questions!

As an example, here's where my motherboard/CPU gets its PCIE lanes.
