Only Browsers can properly access the internet. Windows and other programs can not.

Around Easter this year my desktop failed, the motherboard and processor no longer worked. Recently, with some help from a family member, we swapped out the motherboard, processor and ram and kept my hard drives, power supply and GPU.

All seemed fine until I realized something wasn't right and a few issues were cropping up.

  • Windows can not check for updates automatically. Error code 80072EE2.

I could could log in to Skype but not connect to the internet.

After reinstalling Skype, I could no longer log in.

Firefox had difficulty displaying log in pages that required me to enter a username and password.

Steam was running incredibly slowly and could not display the store page.

After deleting the Steam browser cache, the program ran fine for a few seconds (with the exception of displaying the store page) before becoming slow again.

Steam can also download games upto the 99% mark before it hands there indefinitely.

I could not log into the Blizzard desktop app nor any blizzard games even after re-installing.

So I thought I'd download malware bytes, see if anything was on the computer, it flagged a few PUPs but was otherwise clean. Though also Malware bytes says that it cannot automatically check for updates.

The computer uses an Ethernet connection through a home plug and I have administrator rights. Operating system is windows 7.

I find this strange because even now I'm posting from Firefox which seems to be able to access and download from the internet fine. Also other computers in the same house have none of the above mentioned issues. Any ideas on what could be going on would be helpful and I thank anyone who can assist in advance.
