Hi everyone, I'm new here and hope I'm doing it right otherwise lemme know.

This started about a month ago, suddenly when I started my PC it seemed to have no internet connection, well I found out a few pages work mainly: youtube, facebook, google and some seemingly random ones like obscure pc help forums (not this one tho). Everything else gave me a 'connection timed out' message. Discord, Spotify etc also got no connection.

After a few minutes however everything suddenly worked. Since then it has happened occasionally. Sometimes rebooting the PC fixes it. Sometimes it goes away after 10 min or so after reboot. In the last days everything was fine but today the problem persisted for about 3 hours and nothing helped until it suddenly randomly worked again.

The only change I made on my system before this started happening was changing the drive where my pagefile.sys is located but I cannot see that being connected.

Things I've tried that haven't helped:
  • rebooting the cable modem or resetting to default settings
  • flushing DNS cache, winsock reset
I use windows 7 and usually chrome however the problem happens with all browsers. Otherwise my system runs fine. Let me know what other information you need!

Solution
Maybe youre being issued a IPv6 address for your connection, so only IPv6 sites will respond - turn off all v6 on your PC and maybe even router and go from there.

I don't have wifi for my PC it's over cable. As for DNS Server it's supposed to choose automatically. Not sure if those are helpful answers lol sorry I don't know a lot about network stuff

nah it's just me. Personal network. I see now I have already tried the google DNS settings (I tried a few things I found online) but it didn't help I still just had access to a few pages.
