Only one set of ram are working on my computer

Im running intel dx58so with intel i7 970 and corsair dominator 3x2gb ddr3. The problem is that i wan't to upgrade (bc its not my ram blocks) but the corsair vengeance 2x8gb ddr3 ain't working on it. The ram are brand new and they are both 1600mhz. Can i only use the dominator ? :/

X58 typically is limited to 4 GB sticks, generally max is 24GB in an 6 x4GB setup
