I have a problem with my backup DVDs. Many of my DVDs are giving redundancy errors but some of the data from each DVD can still be read.
One of my DVD has got different shades of circles on the reading side!!!
idk what happened ... they are good as new no scratch at all .... DVDs are from brands like Sony, Moser bair and writex.
Please tell me what the hell happened to them ...can i still get my lost data from them ??

Chemical breakdown is listed under "Optical media" in the bit rot link I provided. I guess that it's hard to see that bit rot is a link. I think I'll update my post and make the text bold also.

its could also the that the chemicals on the media side are breaking down (+/- rw's have a limited shelf-life), or reacting with heat or light; laser-rot caused by outgassing induced by the laser reading the disk (not common in DVD;s at all), Heck theres even a fungus that can eat the stuff.
