Yesterday, everything was working fine until around the middle of the day (it was raining). Now, even though my network sharing center says that I am connected and have internet access, any program that requires internet (Steam, Trillian, Skype, Chrome, ect...) will not connect, save for Internet Explorer. I ran a virus scan and I have not made any changes to settings or installed anything new, so I am flabbergasted as to why I suddenly cannot use internet.

When I run Windows Network Diagnostics on the connection, I get the error: Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.

I have an Alienware Mx14 running Windows 7 Home Premium.

My boyfriend found the solution for me:

1. Click Start, and in the search bar at bottom typed: "cmd".
2. Right-clicked on CMD and clicked "Run as administrator".
3. In the command window, typed the following and pressed Enter after each line:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int reset
ipconfig /flushdns
4. Restart computer
