Only seem to be getting 2Ghz out of i7-4700MQ

Recently put a i7-4700MQ in my Dell D6440. Have it on the High Performance power setting (and reset it to default just in case) and on the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility show it only as 2Ghz, on CUP-z slightly below 2Ghz. I am totally thrashing the CPU (with a very intensive video render). I would expect between 2.4-3.4. I have also tried saturating the CPU using the Tuning Tool. Is there something wrong with my CPU?

Does the motherboard support the higher multipliers of the CPU?

check the BIOS to see what it's set at. Is this a laptop, if so it may be getting thermal throttled easily which could also explain the problem.

People seems to be using the CPU wit the laptop OK. Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is saying there is no throttling. I know the TDP is a little more than stock CPU. What am I looking for in the bios?

Your looking for CPU control/voltage. Basically I'm wondering if the CPU is locked to a lower rate in the BIOS itself.

Will have a look. I do remember it says min speed is 800 and max is 2.4k. Maybe I need to upgrade BIOS.
