Hi guys, hope you don't mind giving me a little advice! I built my current rig a few years ago and now my mobo is on the way out and im looking to replace it, id be more than happy to stick with my i5 2500k but since the 1155 motherboards are so expensive these days I've decided now is the time to upgrade.

Could anyone point me in the right direction of a CPU/Mobo bundle that would be a decent upgrade over my 2500k ? I'm not even sure what the current gen sockets are haha.

Cheers,
Tym

Current socket is LGA 1151 and AM4. Kaby Lake is the current LGA 1151 7th-generation of Intel and sports the i5-7600K and i7-7700K, both quad cores with the i7 utilizing hyper-threading.

AMD has launched their new Ryzen family of processors, with the Ryzen 5 1600 featuring 6 cores with SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading; just like Hyper-Threading) being a great value for gamers and content creators alike.

Intel's 8th-generation has been leaked and will have 6-core i5 and i7 processors. They are rumored to be launched in August. So maybe wait until next month before you decide.
