Open a .nomedia file

I'd like to know how to open a .nomedia file. There are a few programs that come up when you google it but they seem to be bloatware or worse. Any easy way to do this? Thanks very much.

Text editor, e.g. Notepad.

It's just a text file.

It was a picture though (snapchat) saves them as .nomedia file extensions

You sure? .nomedia files tell Android not to search through certain directories for media to add to libraries.

A quick google says they're normally '.jpgnomedia', and need to be renamed to '.jpg'. Or kept in RAM and not saved to disk, because that's the point of snapchat.

What I read was that snapchat "saves" the pictures with .jpgnomedia file extensions so that the phone won't open them up again, however, the files are still there, see:

I didn't save them like that, that's how they already were. I tried changing the file name and saving it as .jpg but it still didn't work. Maybe I did it wrong. I can open it up with word but it's just a bunch of symbols.

Ah. Microsoft isn't showing the extensions. You need to do this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-nz/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-vista

Ok I did that and the full version shows up. I still have the same issue though. See below:

I changed the bottom one to just .jpg (I dropped off the nomedia) but it just loads a blank image that says "invalid image".

Hmm. Try the others? Might have gotten corrupted during copying out of the cache directory.
