When the open file dialog box is opened the files are listed in "Tiles"
mode. How do I get them to be in "Details" mode by default??

Many thanks

You cannot do this natively in XP.

You can accomplish what you want with a third party shareware program.
Go to the following website and download the fully functional demo of File-Ex.

Cottonwood Software: File-Ex and Windows Utilities:

After selecting Details,
Click Tools>Folder Options>View tab>click Apply to all folders
and also reset all folders. Click Apply and OK.
