So i have a slow internet. At peak times, 6.39MBPs download and 0.38MBPs upload. So i tried using OpenDNS to see how it would do. It slowed down my internet to 6.28MBPs download and 0.28MBPs upload. Now i just started using it, and i know i have done it correctly. I haven't restarted my computer yet but i didn't think that was important. So is this the best it can do? Also if it will give me a boost, how much by? (ADSL BT Homehub 3.0, Wireless PCIe Internet Adapter 130MBPs it says)

Solution
your line speed has little to do with your router/adapter. it looks like your on the bt upto 8Mbps deal which means you will get up to 8Mbps.
your home network on the other hand will handle up to 130Mbps through that router but will be limited to 6Mbps every time you switch to the internet.
if your paying for upto 16Mbps or 8Mbps internet (not the same as home network) then thats your line speed and thats as fast as it goes.

Usually DNS is something that won't affect speed unless they are horrible. Your internet speed is probably tied to your network and the more tests you run on that network the more variations in speed you will get. Just the way it is.

yep the variation your seeing is probably down to things outside your control. things like how many people are attached to your networks spider outside your home. this will cause your speeds to fluctuate depending on the time of day and what other people in your area are downloading.
im on a 30mb line and i can get anything from 24mbps up to 40mbps(dunno why i get faster speed than im supposed to but i aint gonna complain) depending on time of day and usage.

ah. Well we've been promised up to 16MBPs, but they are doing a poor job of reaching more than 6. is there any way we can increase the speeds? I upload to youtube daily and it's becoming very annoying having to wait a about 2 to 3 hours to upload (avg. 230MB file), and this is discluding processing.

other than phonin your isp and complaining there isnt much you can do... if you dont play games online you can get them to send you a booster(not sure if they still offer them though).
reason i say if you dont play games is that the booster adds a lot of latency. its good for boosting speed for things like browsing and youtubing but will double your ping at th every least.
