OpenGL w/ graphics update

Hi, I am having trouble installing OpenGL on my laptop (which is pretty old) but I am pretty sure it can support it. This laptop has Intel graphics GM45 and I have updated the driver with a 3rd party program because the windows update for it failed. Does anyone have a fix for my issue? Thank you for reading this and I hope for some good responses!

It is a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I used a program called DriverMax which I have used on a few occasions and it seems to do the job. I tried intel's auto detect earlier, but it failed. I tried again just now and it says no updates are available.

Is this windows 10? The old intel gma are not supported in 10.

Your laptop's graphics processor is Intel GMA 4500MHD looks like it doesn't support OpenGL.

But the driver officially for your gpu from dell. If you want to hang onto it.

It's opengl 2.1 as mentioned in that thread so it does support opengl.

I will look how to check my current version and see if I can install 2.1. I just reinstalled windows yesterday so it could possibly be running at v 1.1 I guess.

My goal was to be able to play a game called Hearts of Iron IV, but its kind of slow. I've read that it favors OpenGL 4+ but I know I'm not getting anywhere near 4. I wanted to make sure I can get it to its max update though.

I dont know much about Hearts of Iron IV but from some lite reading it appears its not very well optimised and running -opengl even with an adequate version doesn't seem to help much reading from posts of late 2016. Not sure if updates have improved things to this day.

I've come across this thread utilising mods to improve performance.

The laptop's main issue is not reaching the minimum specifications for this game. An ATI Radeon HD 5850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 with 1GB VRAM is minimum.
