opening ports for a D-link

Just networked using a D-link router. I am trying to play
Dungeon Siege but can't connect to the server. I know I
need to open ports but I'm not sure which numbers go
where. Anyone with experience using a d-link and opening
ports?

Is it a router or a residential gateway?

I have done some config with residential gateways. I log
into the gateway's web server (usually address 192.168.1.1
or something similar). I put in the name and password
(you will have default values if you never set those up).
Then look through the advanced menus and it should be
obvious which ones deal with firewalls or ports.

Unfortunately, there are several models and versions, the
default addresses, default name and password, and the
screen layouts may all differ. I also changed the base
address on mine to make it a little tougher on hackers.
The best thing to do would be to find the instructions if
this is a new gateway, or talk to who set it up if you
inherited it.

If you call D-Link or go to their site you might have
better luck finding setup details for your model.

If you do manage to log in to your gateway, you could set
up your machine in the DMZ slot, and turn DMZ on to
disable ALL security. Not recommended for any length of
time, as it leaves your system totally open; but it would
let you know if security settings are part of the problem,
or if there are more basic problems to troubleshoot first.

Yes, return it to where you bought it, get your money back, and buy
another brand. Go to www.broadbandreports.com and enter "d-link" into
the search box. You will get a listing of about 20 news stories. At
least eight of them tell of D-Link users battles with their own little
piece of hell.

Good luck
