I just hooked up a second monitor (I use a TV as my main) and want to know if there is a way to set up new windows to open on the display i click them on. For instance, if i'm watching TV on my main monitor and want to be browsing on my 2nd monitor, all new windows open on my main monitor (Which i can't see because i'm watching TV on it). I don't feel like switching back to HDMI 3 with my remote every time just to drag a new window to my 2nd monitor.

If I remember correctly, windows will open on the display they were last placed. However, to move windows without having to switch inputs on the TV, mouse over the application icon in the taskbar. When the representation of the application appears above, move the mouse over that, right-click on it and select, Move. Press any of the arrow keys on your keyboard a couple of times and then you can move the windows with your mouse to which ever screen you want.

Wow that's a nice little solution. Thank you for that. I also just came across another small problem. The little icons, for example sound and internet connection, on the bottom right of the Taskbar aren't on the second display. Same situation, say I wan't to change the audio output from my TV speakers to my headset while i'm watching TV to be able to listen to a YouTube video, I have to change the input on my TV to have access to the Icons.

Make shortcuts. I use dual monitors. There's no icons on primary desktop, I keep all the icons on the secondary except for what's loaded on the primary Taskbar, like edge and clock and the hidden stuff. For anything I regularly use, I have a desktop shortcut icon on the secondary screen for it. That includes network, temp, sound settings etc.

If you have the capacity, and really want to get fancy with a setup, you can use Rainmeter, it's a desktop customization tool that'll add a ton of functionality to monitors. This can be set up on secondary monitors and has custom shortcuts and widgets for just about anything, from weather to clock, network usage, sound settings, clocks, file shortcuts, folder shortcuts, even power/reset buttons on screen. One of the most popular is the Jarvis from Ironman, fully interactive, can even (if you are good with that sort of thing) set it up to use Cortana with a male voice like Jarvis. (Haven't figured how to do that yet)
