'Operating system not found'

Hey everyone,

So I've had a my self built PC since christmas and it's been working perfectly until now. I turned it on today and it suddenly displayed 'Operating system not found', and I haven't touched any of the bios settings etc. Also, my OS is on an SSD, so it's unlikely its failed. Any way of fixing this without losing everything I have on that drive?

Check first in BIOS that your SSD is being recognized, if not it could be as simple as a loose SATA cable.

Update: The Bios is recognising the SSD, and the files are still on there as i've just checked using an external reader. It's now saying 'reboot and select proper boot device' despite me selecting it.

Try using Windows DVD to repair your installation, it seems the MBR got corrupted thus it's being unable to properly recognize your Windows Installation.

I've just tried this, didn't work. I even tried some repair commands and that didn't seem to do much either. Would wiping the whole PC and re installing the OS work if I had to?

As a last resource yes, a fresh install should fix it.
