operating system not found

after installing win 8.1, my computer is working fine and all of a sudden, after sitting idle for awhile, my computer goes to a dos screen saying, "operating system not found". If I restart computer, it works fine. again after sitting idle for awhile, it happens again. How do I solve this problem. I upgraded from win 7 and have the install disc for win 8.1....Help. I have an acer aspire laptop.

hm.. A rather strange issue.Usually if the hard drive is corrupted the system initiates memory dump and crashes.

bu since you can reboot and USE THE SYSTEM without any LAG for some time.

Maybe its just a malware.Check on that first.

I have malwarebytes installed.(the full paid version). cant figure this one out. Im running a scan with it now. will let you know when its finished

I finished the scan and no objects found.

May be something related to sleep/hibernate. I would change those settings. Looks like it falls asleep or what ever it set to do, and then it fails to recover.
