Hello. I am planning on building a PC in the future. However, I do not have the money to get an optical drive. This is a problem because I want to install my operating system. So here is the thing, I have a laptop with an optical drive and I am wondering if I can then put the operating system into my laptop and then put it on a usb. Is this possible?

What OS are you purchasing for the new PC?
For Win 10, you can buy it on DVD, USB, or as a direct download from Microsoft. Create your own USB.

For Win 7 & 8.1, you will get a DVD. From this, you can generate a USB to use to install on the new PC.

So...what OS are you looking at purchasing?

What do you mean by getting Windows 10 via USB. I plan on getting Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

You can purchase Windows 10 directly on a USB. Here:

Or you can create a bootable Windows installation USB drive to install Windows 10 by using Rufus or WinToUSB.
