I hadn't seen it. Interesting stuff but I can't help but be a little
concerned about the bit where it says the new game uses a modified version
of the same engine; seems to me that there's too many things in the old
engine that need fixing to be able to do it with tweaks and bolted on
components.

Still, I shall wait to see before a final verdict! Just want them to get
that damn XBox version out of the way cos I can't see them releasing any
screens or vids of the new game until they've shifted that cos it's bound to
be inferior.

Yeah, Ondrej Spanel has said more than once that mid-game joining using the
OFP1 engine was IMPOSSIBLE to accomplish.

Sooooo...I would think that an entirely new engine from the ground up would
be necessary.

In coop games with respawns you can 'take over' an AI character when you
die, so I've always wondered why someone joining the game couldn't do that
but then again I'm no programmer so I couldn't begin to work out the
technicalities. JIP would probably give us an extra hours gameplay a night
such is the amount of reassigning and restarting we do at the moment!

🙂

JIP would be a disaster I really hope they don't do it for OFP2.
When I'm doing a difficult COOP with my mates the last thing I want is
some 12 year old twat dropping in unannounced and either cocking it up
or worse doing some US army stylee friendly fire.

Well, it's pretty unlikely to happen on TJ's and the odd time something did
happen would be more acceptable than the hour long waits we got some Friday
nights trying to get a CTI going.

I second that - JIP is the way to go, certainly. I play primarily on
private servers anyway so it's never a problem. If I *did* play on a
public server than naturally I'd either hope it was disabled (if it was
possible) or controlled somehow. Or I'd just have to hope I was lucky :)

But there's little more frustrating than connecting to a server full of
mates when they've just started and aren't going to stop playing, and you
have to just sit around waiting...

It could be implemented as a feature doesn't mean it's going to have to be
activated for all and sundry to come in and respawn.

What about setting up a player position as "JIP" - starting with an AK47 or
similar, just away from the action (maybe in a nearby village with just a
pistol?). Or join as a civilian?

The mind boggles with the opportunities.

Are you joking? All civilians should do as they are trained, which is to
load up Grandmother with all their belongings and fill every available road
immediately thus impeding their own troops counter-attack.

Standing and watching in a war zone is not good for the chances of a life
insurance pay out - especially if there are A10s about and you are on the
same side.

🙂
