Hello everyone. I’m building my first pc and I would like your opinion and advice.
My plan for this pc is mainly gaming and basic use(web,YouTube,etc.). I don’t plan to overclock but would like to have it in my back pocket. Great graphics like +60fps at 1440p but I’m fine with 1080p. The games I will be playing: overwatch, rocket league, destiny 2, maybe world of Warcraft, dark souls 3 just to name a few.(mainly overwatch). ...and I want it to look cool to show off to my friends.
So here are the parts.

Case: phanteks P400s.

Mobo: MSI Z270 Gaming M3.

CPU: Intel i5-7600k 3.8GHz LGA 1151.

Memory: GSkill trident z rgb 3000 16gb(2x8gb).

PSU: Corsair hx 750w platinum certified

Cooling: Corsair hydro H8i v2

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 gaming X

SSD: Samsung 850 evo

Total cost: $1392.44 New egg had a bundle special with mobo., cpu and memory.

So what do you think? Any recommendations? Is it overkill for what I want? Can i get the same or slightly less performance for cheaper? I was thinking of getting the 1080 but it was $100 more. Can the 1070 perform 1440p at standard or do I need to tweak the settings? Your opinions and advice are appreciated

8600k is better and has good upgrade path
This cooler is better looking
psu is overkill
no hdd?
1070 is good for 1440p ~60FPS, but you may need to lower some settings for some games.

Why do you need the liquid cooler? I'd drop that to a Cryorig H5 and then upgrade your SSD to a Samsung 850 Evo and a better HD.

You can add one lepa fans in the Scythe cooler for push pull and one fan in the top for exhaust and red lighting.
Sry, the red led rams are here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HKF450S/ref=twister_B01M2AQ7O5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for the advice. What you and the other said, you think air cooling is better? I thought water cooling was.

I went with all the parts that you listed except I decided to keep the DDR4 3000. I don’t think I need the 3600. And went with the Deepcool gamer storm 120ex rgb. And kept the Samsung SSD. Do I really need a hdd.

I would not go with a 120mm aio. Would ask you to reconsider the cooling option.

Well, that's a locked 4690. And this will be an overclocked 6 core i5.

And the 4.5ghz graph shows a 77 c for captain 120 vs 69 for 100iv2 at load. That's 8 c. The Mugen will have the same or almost better performance while being quiet and costing less. For the price of the captain 120, a cryorig r1 would outperform it by a good margin.
Also bear in mind that this is a 6 core cpu. If you oc all the cores to say 4.8ghz, it will exceed the heat generated by the 4790k easily.

Hope this clears up y I was against the 120mm aio ;)

Alright I’ll consider air cooling. I’ll look at th R1, H5, and the Mugen. I’ll probably get a cryorig since it got better reviews. I might just forget the bling. Noise isn’t a big issue for me but I don’t want it be loud were I have turn the volume high. My main concern is performance and keeping cool as possible. I’m willing to spend the money for the performance difference, but if it can do the same or better for cheaper I’ll look into it. Thanks for the opinions and advice.

That doesn't really mean a whole lot. Yeah you can talk all you want about how Intel switched the thermal dynamics on the current generation of CPUs as opposed to the 4690s but really it's the same cooling concept from each CPU generation to the next. It's not like it's going to be a complete 180 from what happened when that review was written to now.

True, but also have a look at the comparison coolers. This captain 120 was tested clearly as a stock cooler replacement. Not for some serious overclocking.
