Hi

I'm going to buy a new computer in the next few weeks. I have put together a parts list and would like your thoughts/opinion on it. Are their things I should change or things I should keep in mind for the build? Please post them below!

Here is the list:

case: Fractal Design Define R4
mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC
cpu: Intel Core i7 4790K
gpu: Asus R9290X DirectCU II OC
ram: G.Skill TridentX 2400MHz
ssd: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
hdd: Western Digital Black 1TB
psu: Corsair RM1000

Thanks

Everything looks good except the power supply. The Corsair CX & RM series are problematic. If you want to stick with Corsair, the HX & AX are OK. I would recommend a Seasonic or XFX power supply. The graphics card has a system requirement of a 750 watt PSU. So a 750 to 850 watt power supply is all that is necessary.

The i7-4790K is tending to be on the hot side, I would include a high performance CPU cooler.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Is an 850W psu enough for when I throw in another 290X? And can I wait some time before I put on a better CPU cooler and rock the stock one for some time?

No, 850W would not enough. You're looking at a 1000W+ PSU. Stock coolers generally aren't the best for over clocking (it's only tested for stability at stock speeds). My CPU stays cool at my over clock with my stock cooler but aftermarket coolers keep your CPU better cooled. I'd say stick with stock and then when you intend to heavily over clock then get a custom cooler. I don't think the i7 4790K over clocks very far if at all based on what I've read.

If you need the extra CPU cooling, you will know it right away. Some of the i7-4790K posted the last few days are getting very hot (80-90 C under stress).

Just do a search of "i7-4790k overheating " to see what I mean.
