I'm looking at upgrades and am considering a 27" high refresh, ultrawide with high refresh or a standard ultrawide.

My understanding is that 3440x1440 is a challenging resolution to drive requiring at least a high end GTX 1080 or maybe even more. It's possible an upgrade may happen one day but right now I have the GTX 1070.

I'm curious as to what the quality of 2560x1080 is, as the remainder of Ultrawide's are in this resolution. Is it grainy as is 1920x1080 is over a 27"? I understand the 1080 would be stretched height wise in these 34-35" Ultrawide models...

Also most of the 2560x1080 Ultrawide's have Free Sync rather than G Sync except for the Acer Z35. How compatible is Free Sync with Nvidia cards and what would you miss from G Sync?

There are a few more choices in high refresh 27'' models but I am intrigued by the curved cinematic look of the Ultrawide's and can't decide... Obviously the 27" models would be 2560x1440 which is 2K? And the 2560x1080 is full HD? What sort of difference are you looking at there?

Solution
2560x1080 are good screen if you want ultra wide screen on low budget. but since it is very ultra wide , if you get small size will look very small in height... so it is better to get the 34 inch one and not the 29 or 25 inch

The Acer Z35 is the best among them but very expensive ... not worth it imo

if you want cheaper ,

the LG 34UC79G is very good one wih IPS and 144hz and is 34 inch , and does not need GTX 1080 like the 3440x1440 monitor

it is $579

ultra wide monitors are more enjoyable in gaming than the normal ones.

and Free Sync will not work with Nvidia cards.

Yes, I'd like to retain the height that the 35" ultrawide has, as the smaller model would feel to slim height wise.

The LG one you mentions looks nice but is Free Sync, so not compatible with Nvida cards?

it will work but without the Free Sync Option ... still it has 144hz and IPS screen ..

If you want to buy Gsync monitor , it will be more expensive . for me I dont bother much about Gsync/Freesync

you can play with fps up to 144fps smooth, but the Gsync is for tears and not about missing frames ..

the hz will give you every frames upto 144 fps ...

Gsync will eliminate some stuters and tears .. but they are not that of a big problem for me, and they are not noticeable in every game ..

so it is up to you and you get what you pay for .

but if you really want Gsync then invest in the 3440x1440 screens because the Acer is very expensive for 2560x1080

So how would you deal with tearing with an Nvidia card and a Free Sync monitor?

For 3440x1440 and G Sync there's really only the Acer X34 and the Asus ROG which are very expensive. I haven't experienced 100Hz gaming but people say you will never go back... So with the ultrawide cinematic feel being nice, would the 2560x1440 on a 27" actually look better than the 2560x1080 on the ultrawide?

you just dont ... the tearing stays . but it is not big deal , it is the same tearing you see today on your regular monitor.

missing frames is bigger issue because once you have more then 60 fps , the screen cant show you all the frames and will look bad . so when you get 144hz monitor no frames will be missing unless the game runs at more than 144fps which is impossible

look at Gsync like you look at Vsync ... but it is much more better ...

I hate nvidia for making people pay for Gsync , AMD dont , thats why Freesync monitors are much cheaper. I hope AMD Vega GPU will perform good , I will switch to AMD and enjoy Freesync for much much cheaper price .

as for playing on Ultra wide , well it is AWSOME ... the wide View in the game will also make you never look back ..

more hz never look back
Ultra wide : never look bak
Freesync : never look back
Gsync : I love my Pocket I will look back

I thought there were high refresh monitors before G Sync and Free Sync came out? Does high refresh not require V Sync? Does a high refresh rate simply not tear?

Edit: I suppose G Sync/Free Sync is ultimately better. Can software sync not be used with high refresh non G Sync/Free Sync monitors?

The more fps you have the less the tearing and stuttering will be apparent . so as I said it is not a big deal if you have a powerful hardware. that is they will stutter and tear but you will notice it less because it is VERY FAST FPS ...
