[SOLVED] Opinion on new Developer/Gaming build

I’m piecing together a new machine and wanted to get someone’s opinion on it. I’m a software engineer and gamer so I picked the CPU/GPU combo because it seemed like a good balance for those two use-cases.

• Case: ONYXIA II 242W High Air-Flow Mid-Tower Case w/ 5 RGB 120mm fans
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6GHz [4.4GHz Turbo] 8 Cores/ 16 Threads 36MB Cache 65W
• CPU / Processor Cooling Fan: Cooler Master A71C CPU Air Cooler Anodized Black Aluminum + Copper Core 120mm ARGB Master Fan
• Motherboard: ASROCK X570 PHANTOM GAMING 4S ATX
• Memory: 32gb (4x8GB) DDR4/3600MHz Dual Channel Memory (G. skill RGB)
• Video Card: EVGA GeForce® RTX 2070 SUPER™ XC ULTRA GAMING 8GB
• Hard Drive #1: 1TB WD Blue SN550 Series PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
• Hard Drive #2: Seagate BarraCuda 8TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch Sata 6 Gb/s 5400 RPM 256MB Cache

The power supply, motherboard and CPU cooler are the only unknowns for me. Not sure if those are decent or not. I don’t really want to run an AIO, prefer to stick with a fan and heat sink if possible.

The cooler is a little wimpy, but it should be fine for stock operation.
that being said, the included cooler will too.

The psu is also not a great choice.
It's rated C on the psu tier list meaning "suitable for office use, and entry level desktops"
It has enough wattage, but i would suggest a higher quality psu.

The motherboard is fine.

A quality PSU, better faster RAM, the stock 3700x cooler is adequate. I could not find that case so I put one that I like. Cases are preference mostly, pick the one you like, I added one for the sake of it being a complete build. I prefer WD hard drives over Seagate, my preference. Also the X570 motherboard is not necessary and inflates the price of the build a bit.

The only thing you are paying for with the x570 boards is PCIe 4.0. Graphics cards cannot eve saturate 3.0 and 4.0 storage options basically are not any faster in desktop scenarios than 3.0 ones. It will be a feature that may end up having more use in 4-6 years, but by that time this computer will be in need of updating.

I second that cooler looking rather wimpy. It's probably a fair amount worse than the Wraith Prism that comes with a 3700X. Note that the Wraith Prism itself is quite capable as far as stock coolers go, complete with several heat pipes, a decent stack of fins, and even addressable RGB lighting...

A 120mm tower cooler like that second one you linked to is likely to be somewhat better than the Prism in terms of cooling performance and acoustics, but it might be worth trying the stock cooler first and seeing how well that works before deciding whether to replace it with something better.

I think, that its a pretty good psu.
You should check in the psu tier list, generally, under B is not good.

If you actually want to future proof, wait just a few days (june 16th) and get the new b550 boards.
