I just installed my RTX 3070 FE. I was able to beat the rush on a Best Buy drop. I have Ryzen 7 5800x. I'm currently using an ASUS VG248QE monitor (24", 144hz, 1ms response, TN). I like this monitor a lot but I'm considering getting a second monitor and using this 248QE with my old pc. I know IPS panels have much better color and viewing angles but TN are cheaper and faster response times. Colors don't bother me as much as some people, and I've never personally used IPS but after seeing some IPS models in a store, I was pretty impressed.

I tend to play more competitive/fast paced multiplayer pc games. By default, I feel like TN will be better (0.5 or 0.4 ms response times on the asus models im looking at) since I value response times over color quality. However, the IPS versions are 1ms response time (the same as my current monitor).

I'm just not sure if I should stay with 1080 or go with 1440. Is there a noticeable difference in response time between the 0.4 ms TN and the 1ms IPS? Is the fps drop worth higher resolution? The Asus models I'm looking at are all 27": VG27AQ (IPS 1440 165hz 1ms), VG27BQ (TN 1440 165hz 0.4ms), VG279QR (IPS 1080 165hz 1ms), or VG278QR (TN 1080 165hz 0.5ms).

Since I already own a 1080p, and I now have an RTX 3070, I feel I should go to 1440. I'm just not sure how big of a difference the response times would be (if even noticeable at all) between IPS and TN panels.

Any feedback is welcome. Thank you!

You won't notice the difference between 5ms and 1ms. When you blink thats 200ms. So you won't even notice it. IPS 1440p is nice, though its better if you get your hands on 4k 60hz imo
