I've read a few things about Thunderbolt 3 (40gb/s) and I know there is a lot of potential. I bring this up because I own two laptops with TB3 and I never use it. I have an eGPU w/ a 1080 in it I thought about hooking up to either of my GTX 1060 Laptops just for the added power but how well does it really work. (You see I haven't opened the eGPU Box yet). I was wondering if Displays/Monitors would be heading the way of Thunderbolt 3 (or beyond). Is there any thought process to this which is true.
Right now, I have a BenQ Zowie Full HD 144hz Monitor with a DVI and HDMI port but no Display Port so I'm thinking of upgrading my monitor to either a QHD or 4k Display with display ports available.
I guess what I'm asking is whether or not it's time to upgrade from HDMI to Display Ports so I can cash in on the higher Refresh rates. Also, my monitor is not G-Sync Compatible. Which I would like it to be.
I would say possibly I'd like a high refresh rate and a low response time (1ms) but also get the necessary display port(s) and G-Sync Compatibility to really cash in on my purchase.
But my last point is I don't want to spend $1000 on a monitor. I don't think I need to but then I wonder about the higher specs on most of the QHD monitors and not the so high specs on the 4k monitors for under the $600 range. I want quality and features at a reasonable (like most of us).
Can anyone share with me what they have in their setup which works well for my needs or what is out there. Also, what about some of the off-brand monitors?
(sorry to be so wordy but I wanted you to know what I was looking for in a monitor). Maybe I should hold off until 4k displays are more reasonable and bring with them more gaming type specs instead of the QHD. (I didn't even mention TN or IPS Panels... This makes me think even more).
Your advice?
