Opinions on areas to upgrade within my system.

So I am looking to upgrade my PC in January around the time of the Kabylake launch.
I was curious to see how users feel that my PC will stand against the newer titles.

Specification list:

CPU: Intel core i5 4690k 3.5Ghz
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler.
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING 4G Graphics Card - 4 GB GDDR.5
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z9ZP-D3
HDD 1: TB HDD.
HDD 2: 500Gb HDD.
SSD: Kingston 120Gb SSD.
Case: Corsair carbide Spec 01.
PSU: Corsair VS 600w PSU.

I currently play at 1080p and from friends I have heard that the i5 4690k is going to substantially struggle in the next 2 years. I have been told that the last great time testing CPU was the 2500k. I have done my research being fairly new to the hardware scene and from a pattern in upgrades I simply do not see a viable need since chips like the 2500k are still heavily relevant and do not seem to show much of a difference.

My main question is what aspects need to change?

Personally,I wish to change the PSU and perhaps upgrade the GPU. I could upgrade the CPU but I am unsure if it is actually worth it. I was debating the upgrade to a core i7 but all my rig is used for is gaming.

Opinions are greatly appreciated!

SSD - up that to a 250GB or larger. 120GB is a bit slim
CPU cooler - the 212 EVO was good. About 4 years ago. There are newer, better ones for about the same price.

GPU - Look at the GTX 10XX line. 1060 or 1070.

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but is it possible to SLI GTX 1060's?

I know the 4690k is aging but is it still able to handle newer titles? I have been told it will bottleneck a 10xx card.

First off, get a better quality PSU. The Corsair VS series are simply not very good. Evga B2/G2/GS are good choices. GTX 1070 is the minimum, I would consider, for graphics card. The 1060 6gb really isn't that much faster, being about even with a GTX 980. Change your SSD to a Crucial MX300, 275gb or higher.

Get an EVGA G2/G3 550-650W PSU especially if your doing any sort of OC'ing. Next would be GPU but only if the 970 isn't cutting it in games anymore.

A 1060 is more of a lateral move, they compare to the 980. So going from a 970 to a 1060 really isn't that much of a jump. A 1070 would be a nice upgrade for the 970.
