I am in the process of picking a PSU for my new 7800x3d/7800xt build and it's surprisingly difficult to find a good one.

I stumbled upon: Asus AP-850G 80 Plus Gold 850W ATX 3.0 PCIE 5.0 Modular (150 euro/$) and limited reviews online suggest it's "great". Price is also better than my other current narrowed-down options:

  • Thermaltake Toughpower PF3 80 Plus Platinum 850W ATX 3.0 PCIe 5.0 Modular
  • Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 80 Plus Gold 850W ATX 3.0 PCIe 5.0 Modular
  • Asus TUF Gaming 80 Plus Gold 850W ATX 3.0 Modular

Any opinions/suggestions regarding this one? Any other recommendations? I am looking for ATX3 with Pcie5 (futureproofing and all..) Thank you.

The power supply includes an eight year warranty and is 80+ Gold Certified, so it should be a fairly solid unit. Asus has good power supplies. If you're worried about it, you could go with the Asus Strix 850 instead. Asus uses rebranded SeaSonic units for their Strix and Thor lineup. It's fully modular and 80+ Gold Certified at a lower price point (currently on sale). It also includes a longer warranty period of ten years. Hope this helped, take care.

In my location, your mentioned strix is 50$ more expensive and it is not pcie5. Would you still recommend it over the ap-850?

It's a decent unit. Same CWT GPX platform like the MSI MAG A-GL but with slightly better caps and better fan. It's better than the Strix because the Seasonic Focus Plus based Strix has OCP issues with recent GPUs. Don't worry with the Strix Aura because that's a great unit.
