For Christmas today I recieved a GeForce 2 MX. On my list I had just put GeForce 2 MX or GTS and didnt bother putting in specific brands (never thought my parent would actually buy me one).
I was just wondering what peoples opinions on this card were before I openned it. I dont want to open it and find out it sucks, I can find a review on it anywhere, from what I've seen the Ultra and GTS by creative are amazing, but no input on the MX.
Here's my system specs:
Current - Asus P3B-F, PIII 500, 256MB PC-133 SD-RAM, ATI Rage Fury 32MB, SB Live!, 6x DVD, HP 9310i CD-RW, 30.6 GB ATA/100 7200 rpm Maxtor Hard Drive, 13GB ATA/33 5400 rpm Samsung Hard Drive.
New (havent put it together yet, but have all the parts) - Athlon 900 MHz, Asus A7V (Rev 1.02), 256MB PC-133 RAM, Creative Annihilator 2 MX, SBLive!, DVD, CDR blah blah blah...

Look in Tom's Hardware Graphics Guide for articles on the GeForce MX and GTS and DDR and 256.
You are a very lucky person, to have parents that would spend that sort of money on you. The MX is a great all around type card, does nicely in games and other video pursuits. It isn't a frame-rate giant of a card like the GeForce 2 GTS or 64meg Ultra, but it compares in frame-rates about to the Geforce 256 plain model, which ain't bad, and beats it in some applications. If you are into casual gaming, once in a while, this is a great card, as it will play all the games available today very easily. However, if you like to game at 1200 res and game often, like almost every day, then you will probably want the GeForce 2 GTS as it comes with DDR memory (this is where most bottlenecks occur) or the GeGorce 2 Pro or Ultra which have 64megs of DDR memory, and a little bit more clocking speed and memory speed which results in fantastic frame rates to carry you well into the next generation of games easily. If your parents are understanding ($$$$), try for the Geforce 2 Pro or Ultra if you want the best. Like I said, do your homework on the Graphics Guide here in this site. Good Luck, Take-Out.

PS: I would be happy with the GeForce 256 DDR myself, for a comprimise tween performance and price (about $150).

Splendid
The GeForce 2 MX chipset is a good chipset and has proven itself to gamers. It's highly overclockable (with the proper cooling) and cheap. As far as performance, it's between a GeForce DDR and GeForce SDR. Overclocked it's about as fast as a GeForce DDR.

Well my parents wont be buying me a GTS... They spend equal money on each child.
And its not SDR, its DDR.

I was told that SDR was Single Data Rate and DDR was Double Data Rate.
I'm going for a GTS... Which should I get?
