I have an rx 470 in my system at the moment and I am considering buying a refurbished rx480 to run in crossfire with it. Everything in my PC is compatible, I am just wondering if it is a good idea. I have heard many people talk about how crossfire is a terrible idea and should be avoided, but I want to know why this is or is not true. Any experts on the topic?

You can't Crossfire dissimilar GPUs - you need two RX 470 or two RX 480, but not one of each.

Also, list your full specs for a better answer as to whether this is a "good idea."

The GPU architecture only needs to be the same, so any GPUs from the same line will work together (some one who tested it out https://wccftech.com/rx-480-rx-470-crossfire/ ). I am running an i56600k with an EVGA 650w Gold PSU and a Gigabyte motherboard (can't remember what model, but it supports multi GPU).
