So, this is my first ever attempt at making a desktop. I've almost got enough money saved to afford it and will be ordering the parts soonish, but would appreciate some opinions on my parts.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 ATX LGA1150

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation

Case: DIYPC Ranger-R4-R ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX

Any advice is appreciated, my knowledge in hardware is very slim. Also, if it makes a difference my price range is between 800-1100 before taxes, cheaper stuff is fine with me so long as it's not significantly worse.

Thanks!

Solution
Theres not alot of point in getting an unlocked K processor with a motherbd that won't overclock. You need to upgrade to a z97 motherbd to overclock.

Alright, noted. If I didn't want to overclock, could I switch my CPU to the Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core?

Look at the difference in resale value between an i5-2400 and i5-2500K for an explanation of why it makes perfect sense to pick the K model when there is no price difference regardless of whether the machine will be overclocked.

Wrocksom,

Switch the motherboard to the H97-D3H or H97 Pro4.

Switch the PSU to a ~550W Seasonic G, Antec TPC, XFX TS (I can offer other suggestions if you want).

Sorry, took me a while to respond 😛 Thank you for this, I've made adjustments and have decided to go with the DH3 motherboard and the XFX TS 550W PSU. Any other tips or do you think I'm good to go with this build?
