I decided to build my own PC again. Its been a while since I built my last one (2011) with the infamous i5-2500k and GTX 580 and the Antec Illusion Steel Mid tower Case. I miss those days =(

Anyway I'm back on the PC build train again with an $1,800ish budget and wanted to see what more experienced people thought about this for pure gaming? If I had to make a scale 1 being the lowest 10 being the highest what would you rate it? I decided not to wait for Intel's 8th gen, I'm in the market now and I wont be a month or 2 from now.

You know what you're absolutely right, I dont need a 165hz monitor. I only need a 60hz. That was helpful advice. Thank you.

Well I realized I dont need that much frame rate as I am mostly an open world/sandbox/MMO player, I would need to do 2 gtx 1080 ti (I think) in order to take full opportunity of the 165hz. So, I decided to go with a 1440p 60hz monitor for half the cost

But will a Ryzen 5 1600 bottleneck the GTX 1080 @ stock? If I were to OC it to 4Ghz?

For gaming -> coffee lake I7 or I5 will be better choice. Ryzen single core IPC is just worse.

I would like to have a coffee lake i5 or i7 but I've heard just about everywhere that they wont be available again untill Q1 2018 or even later... I can't wait that long. I literally have nothing right now. I just returned an Alienware 17 R4 because I realized that laptop gaming is just not for me and so now I'm SOL

Bottlenecking is 100% pointless to worry about when choosing parts. It is inevitable anyways.

Choose a CPU based on the FPS you want in games. Since your aiming for 60hz/FPS, the Ryzen 1600 is a perfect choice. No reason for coffee lake CPU as it would bring no benefits to you.

Choose a GPU based on the graphical settings you want at that FPS in the games you play. In your case the GTX 1080 or gtx 1070 would be a good choice.

Solution

I like this a lot better, thank you. I've seen that NZXT case come up a lot. It must be pretty popular. I thought that Fractal Design case was pretty good too because of the air flow, what makes this case better?

If you are open world/MMO player, you might enjoy UW 3440x1440 display. even something like GTX 1070 does over 60FPS on such res. though I highly recommend higher than 60Hz refresh rates. even with 75-100 it looks much more fluid.

About vapour suggestion, go back to Meshify :) S340 is by far inferior to any Fractal's Define case in terms of airflow.
and again, I have to disagree about CPU. for 60 FPS, ryzen will do just fine even at stock. but no matter how much you overclock the ryzen (4.1 is a wet dream) i5-8400 will do better job at gaming and will keep doing so for few years.
and you can actually get the 8th gen. supply comes every week. B&H have them for order - you can call and ask how much it will take to actually have one.
though no worries, ryzen will do the job just fine. make sure that RAM is good for ryzen (samsung b die) - ryzen loves faster RAM (more MHz)

Here is what I think I finally decided on:

I had to stick with ASUS GPU for the 2 free games $120 value and plus I have used ASUS cards since 2011 and I've never had an issue with them.

I kept your case, because it looks fricken awesome. I know its not as good on air flow but I'll add more case fans and a cpu cooler if I have to later on.

I changed the PSU because Super Blizz wanted to charge me $9 in shipping and the EVGA was $60 on amazon and I have Prime so better custmer service if I have to RMA and stuff. But yea thanks for your help.

I canceled the PSU thankfully it hadn't shipped yet. The SSD unfortunately I would need to return once it gets here. But I dont see what problem is with it, 128GB should be enough for Windows and maybe 1 or 2 games that have long loading times.

hey so I purchased this build you recommended. I'm super excited for the parts to be delivered. I was wondering if the mobo will recognize the 3200mhz on the ram. I've been seeing reports back in April that it only goes to 2933. has the bios been updated to fix that since then? anything else I should be aware of (driver wise) with these components? thanks.

oh also, will the stock cpu fan from amd be enough for overclocking to 4ghz? im assuming thats a big no, but just wanted to see

For ram, 3200 seems achievable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siUQDwQWrB8
3.8 should be OK, beyond depends on your luck :)
Be careful with static, floor is better than carpet, touch metal before handle mb
Take it slowly, make sure cpu orientation is correct. cpu cooler is actually the hard part, take it slow, squeeze the spring on the cooler to fit the four nail holes. PSU should have two cables connecting mb, 24 pin MB and 6-8 pin CPU. Read the manual and ask us if you have any confusion/questions. Good luck, bro.

Hey so, after getting these parts you suggested, I'm seeing people say that you shouldn't use a Nvidia GPU with a Freesync monitor because you can't take advantage of the Freesync technology. So, all I am waiting on right now is my PSU and case but I'm worried now that once I get this built, I will start experiencing screen tearing when I start gaming @ 75-80fps on this monitor.

Did you know about this or am I reading this wrong?

Freesync is open source program and it comes free with the monitor. It only works with AMD for now, some developers are actually working on it to work for Nvidia. You just don't activate freesync and it works as a normal 144Hz monitor. Many people reporting as frame rate goes close to 144FPS, you will barely notice stuttering. Of course, the best solution is to get a G-sync monitor which is ~$300 more usually.
