Opinions on my upgrade!

Hi, so I'm upgrading my PC at the moment and am a bit finicky on which components I should purchase.

This is the view of my complete overall at this time, (bear in mind I have a budget of about £400):

i5 6600 Skylake - CPU
EVGA GTX 960 4GB SSC/MSI AMD R9 380 4GB - GPU
Asus Z170-K CrossFire USB 3.1 Skylake ATX Motherboard
EVGA 600 W 80+

I'm mainly looking for opinions on the CPU and GPU choices (currently leaning more towards the R9 380). In my current situation (a jobless 17 year old) I can't upgrade yearly so I'm looking for these separate components to last about 3 years, especially the GPU.

I will be playing AAA games (such as Fallout 4, Battlefront, Rainbow Six Siege etc) and looking to get high frame rates on high-ultra settings.

Thank you

Edit: As you can tell by the CPU I have no plans to OC in this system.

In my opinion to play those games on a GTX 960 is not going to help you much and it wouldn't last you for 3 years more likely it will last you for less than 2 years, I prefer to buy GTX 970 which is 100 pounds more. I can see that you selected a I5-6600 which is a locked CPU which means its better to save money on your motherboard as you are not planning or going to overclock it anyway. Can you also tell me the full product name of the PSU as I cannot check if the PSU a good one for your PC.

I can do better than give you the name I'll give you a link, I don't think I have a choice with the 970 tbh, it just too expensive for me at the moment, maybe in about 6 months time I'd be able to buy it but I can't stand not being able to play the games I want on my current rig.

Here's the link anyway:

Well personally for me I would rather wait than waste my money now. Can you give me the detail list of your current PC partlist ? why would you want to change your PSU anyway ?

My current PC is VERY budget.

GTX 650 Ti Boost (GPU)
i3 2120 2-Core (CPU)
ASUStek p8h61-mx 2011 model
PSU is a 900W Novatech
I have 8gb of RAM but I don't know what make
My case is a ZOOstorm case as I've been upgrading from an overpriced complete buy.

you already have a 900W PSU which is quite decent why would you want to change it ? Also keep in mind that 170 chipset MoBos uses DDR4 RAM not DDR3 so you need to get new memory. Well if you want to change your PSU these are some good ones :
XFX Power Supply 550W 80+ Bronze
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Instead of your ASUS Z170 you can change it into a H170-K as you dont want to overclock.
Well if you can't afford a GTX 970 then you can go GTX 960 but this VGA won't last you as long as the GTX 970
Use this Website to help you plan your build, it can help you check if your PSU is enough for system and also help you with compatibility issues : https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/
Hope this helps you.
Good Luck

I was told my PSU is a cheap brand and that I shouldn't use it if I plan on getting more powerful components!
I looked around at some reviews and settled on a AMD card and Gigabyte motherboard with an R5 Fractual case,
overall I'm pretty happy with what I've chosen and thank you for your help,

Just in case you wanted to comment on anything else there's the part list :)

I cannot view you partlist send me the permalink

Cool thank you man, I think I'm set for Christmas and my birthday to roll round 😀
They're both in December so I won't have to wait long at all, I may even have a job before then and might be able to go for the GTX 970 or r9 390!
