Hi just wondering what the noticeable differences are between these two CPU's as I'm planning to build my dad a PC, I've already got other parts sorted it just comes down to these two. Which one would be more of a bang for buck cpu? ( he's mostly going to be using it for web browsing, video / photo editing and just generally daily use.

Currently the price difference between the two is about £40 ( 2600 = £119~ and 3600 = £159~)

Solution
The 3600 is a lot better performance, however, the 2600 is still a great performer and for your dad it is unlikely the extra performance of the 3600 will be required. I would get the 2600.

Depending on how intense your father is with his video and photo editing, you may also want to consider the 3100 and 3300X. If he has a 1650 Super or better, most video encoding/decoding can be delegated to NVEnc and in that case, the CPU does not matter quite as much.

he's not really intense, its more of like light editing / hobby wise
